Beautiful Krabi, Thailand
By Andrew A. Francis
Krabi in southern Thailand is a place that can only be described as paradise. The beautiful sheer cliffs jutting into the beautiful aquamarine sea, are a typical feature of this part of Thailand which is also characterised by pure white sand beaches.
Particularly stunning is Railay which is only accessible by boat. Indeed, the inaccessibility to this delightful part of Thailand makes it all the more attractive – the sweeping West Railay beach is the gateway to an area of outstanding beauty.
Whilst Ao Nang is only a short boat journey away, it is often busy and crowded although it can be great to spend an evening out here. There are water taxis that will take you on the short journey to Ao Nang where you will find a huge selection of bars and restaurants. Indeed, there are some lovely beaches here too but they don’t offer the sort of Isolation that Railay has on offer!
When you first step on a long tail boat to take you to West Railay, you feel a sense of relaxation and peace as you marvel at the beautiful surroundings. Indeed, as you glide across the stunning Andaman sea, you are experiencing your first taste of paradise.
There are an amazing array of bungalows to suit all different budgets which are cleverly arranged to provide tranquility and seclusion. Even the budget style accommodation offers little touches of luxury and the higher offerings provide stunning villas with some even having their own little pool, providing the ultimate in relaxation.
The ‘village’ caters for all your needs with an ATM, supermarket and pharmacy although it can be quite pricey and it is worth checking out East Railay which has a laid back vibe and some bargains! In fact, the vibe here really suits island life and many of the visitors come here to climb those incredible limestone rocks.
Rock climbing can easily be arranged alongside other activities such as snorkelling and diving where you will be rewarded with a spectacular colourful array of fish and corals.
On West Railay beach you will often find sports activities taking place or perhaps you may prefer to enjoy a cocktail whilst marvelling at the magnificent views.
Naturally seafood is delicious and often chargrilled and succulent. The fish is fresh and is the perfect way to end what is sure to be a fantastic day. There are some gorgeous little places to have a meal and it is wonderful to be able to enjoy the succulent food whilst dining ‘alfresco’.
The best little secret of this stunning island is the jaw droppingly beautiful Phra Nang Beach. Whilst tourists do come for day trips there are times when it seems deserted which means you have the beautiful warm sea all to yourself!
Enjoy a foot massage or simply feel at peace with the warm white sand underneath you. This is the place to while away the day and read a book and breathe in the tropical atmosphere around you.
The ambience is enhanced by the lack of cars which makes it even harder to leave! And those beautiful, bright stars seem to be so low that you can almost reach out and grab one to put in your pocket as a happy reminder of the wonderful holiday you are sure to have here!
